President Weah Nominates New Ambassador to the U.S.

Ambassador Jeff Gongoer Dowana Sr. was nominated by President Weah to replace Ambassador Patten pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Plenipotentiary Sarah Fyneah will conduct the affairs of the mission in Washington, D.C. pending the arrival of Ambassador Dowana.

Washington, D.C. - The President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah has recalled the Ambassador accredited near Washington D.C., George S.W. Patten Sr.

Dr. Weah on Thursday, September 15 nominated Ambassador Jeff Gongoer Dowana, current Liberian Ambassador to Kuwait, as the replacement for Ambassador Patten, pending the confirmation of Ambassador Dowana by the Liberian Senate. 

According to a release from the Executive Mansion, Ambassador Dowana holds a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from the NYACK College in New York. He earlier earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Liberia.

Ambassador Dowana is a career diplomat who served at several postings including in London, New York, Washington DC, Paris, and his current assignment as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to Kuwait.

Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Plenipotentiary, Madam Fyneah, will conduct the Affairs of the Mission in Washington D.C. pending the arrival of Ambassador Dowana. It can be recalled that President Weah also recently nominated Madam Fyneah as Ambassador, to head Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
Ms. Fyneah is also a career diplomat with wide ranging diplomatic experiences, from serving as Assistant Minister/ Special Assistant under three different Ministers-of-Foreign Affairs, to diplomatic assignments in Sierra Leone, the State of Qatar, Ethiopia, and currently Washington DC,USA.
Prior to her current assignment, she served as Charge d'Affaires for nearly three years to Ethiopia with non-resident concurrent accreditations to Kenya Uganda, Sudan and Tanzania at the bilateral level, and on the multilateral level to the Africa Union(AU)and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
