
Washington, D.C. – June 5, 2013: The Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States, H.E. Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, paid a four-day official visit to the State of North Carolina from Wednesday – Saturday, May 29-June 1, 2013.
During the visit, Ambassador Sulunteh held bilateral discussions focused on investment and educational opportunities with business and educational leaders in North Carolina.
Ambassador Sulunteh met with leaders of North Carolina Central University, Winston Salem State University, Wake Forest University Hospital, and Forsyth College. During those meetings, the discussions centered on the need for capacity building in Liberia, student and teacher exchange programs, scholarships, and other areas of partnership between higher institutions of learning in Liberia and North Carolina.
Ambassador Sulunteh also held discussions regarding improvement of Liberia’s health care delivery system, and the need to make solar energy available to supplement for electricity.
Issues regarding further strengthening of the sister-city relationship between Winston Salem, NC and Buchanan, Grand Bassa County in Liberia were also discussed during a meeting between the Ambassador and leaders of the Winston Salem chapter of the Buchanan-Winston Salem Sister City relationship.
Ambassador Sulunteh also held a town-hall meeting with members of the Liberian communities in North Carolina, during which he briefed them on
the state of affairs in Liberia, including progress being made in the reconstruction process of the country and the challenges ahead.
A major highlight of the Ambassador’s visit to North Carolina was an address to the State Assembly of North Carolina on May 29 at the State Capitol in Raleigh, NC.
