Washington D.C., September 4, 2025: The Rotary Club of Washington, D.C., inducted Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, the Ambassador of Liberia to the United States, as an Honorary Member on September 3 at its monthly luncheon. The President of the Rotary Club, Mr. Donnie Shaw, presented Ambassador Conteh with a Certificate of Honorary Membership, symbolizing recognition of his exceptional contributions to strengthening international ties. The event took place following an engaging presentation by Dr. Conteh, titled: "Liberia and the United States: A Partnership in Progress."
Ambassador Conteh's presentation highlighted Liberia's post-war success story, focusing on economic growth and development through a comprehensive strategy by Liberia's President, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., known as the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID). He also emphasized a new chapter in US-Liberian relations, focusing on economic and commercial diplomacy, including the expansion of trade and investment to create opportunities for US and Liberian companies in key sectors, such as energy, infrastructure, and digital economies, for the benefit of the people of Liberia and the United States.
Adding a unique touch to the celebration was the presentation of a special "Tree for the Capital" certificate to Ambassador Conteh. According to Mr. William Dent, in a letter to Dr. Conteh, the certificate signifies the Club's "commitment to plant a tree in your honor, a token of our thanks." The Ambassador is expected to join the Club and the National Park Service in due course for the tree planting ceremony.
In brief remarks, Dr. Conteh expressed heartfelt gratitude and underscored the importance of collaboration in facing global challenges. "Receiving this recognition from such an esteemed organization is a profoundly humbling experience," said Dr. Conteh. "It reinforces our shared vision of progress and sustainability, not just between our nations, but globally." The Liberian diplomat expressed optimism for the future, encouraging ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the Washington, DC Rotary Club and Liberia.
