Washington D.C., May 29, 2025 - In a heartfelt ceremony, the Liberian Studies Association (LSA) of the USA honored Ambassador Al-Hassan Conteh, the Ambassador of Liberia to the United States of America, for his past, significant contributions as President of the Liberian Studies Association and former editor of the Liberian Studies Journal.
The event took place at the Ambassador’s office in the Embassy in Washington D.C. on May 27, 2025, and was attended by Deputy Chief of Mission Isaac C. Yeah, Sr. and Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs Al-Jerome Anastas Chede Sr.
Dr. Herbert Brewer, co-host of the 56th LSA Conference and Professor of History at the Morgan State University, praised Ambassador Conteh for his contributions to scholarship on Liberia. In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Brewer presented Ambassador Conteh with a plaque symbolizing his "continued commitment to the advancement of Liberian scholarship." This award, Dr. Brewer noted not only celebrates Conteh's scholarly accomplishments but also his diplomatic achievements over the years.
In his brief acceptance remarks, Ambassador Conteh expressed gratitude to the LSA for the honor bestowed upon him. He acknowledged the efforts of all those who worked alongside him to promote Liberia’s rich academic culture and promised to continue working with even greater vigor to elevate scholarly endeavors. "I thank the LSA for this honor and remain committed to its causes in promoting Liberian scholarship and academic excellence not only in Liberia but around the world," said Ambassador Conteh.
