
Washington, D.C.: 9-/27/13: On September 27, 2012, His Excellency Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, deputized for President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as the Keynote Speaker at the 141st Founders’ Day Convocation of Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi.As part of the Embassy’s educational outreach effort, Ambassador Sulunteh used the opportunity of the occasion to propose the establishment of a mutually rewarding partnership between Alcorn State University and the Republic of Liberia to promote education and culture. As a result of the foregoing, Alcorn State University extended two full scholarships to the Republic of Liberia.Accordingly, two
Liberian students were selected from a competitive process through the Civil Service Agency in Liberia as beneficiaries of the scholarships. The students are Victor O. Flomo, graduate student studying Workforce Education, and Malah M. Dahn, undergraduate student studying Agriculture. The students began classes for the Fall 2013 academic season and are getting acclimated to the school system. In an effort aimed at assisting the students in the process of readjustment, Mrs. DeContee Clements-Kanneh, Assistant to the Ambassador on Diaspora Affairs, recently visited with the students on campus on the day of their orientation.During Mrs. Kanneh’s visit, the students presented a plaque expressing thanks and appreciation to Dr. M. Christopher Brown, II, President of Alcorn University, on behalf of the Liberian National Student Union (LINSU). Dr. Samuel L. White, Executive Vice President and Provost of Alcorn University, received the plaque on behalf of Dr. Brown.
