Washington, D.C. November 10, 2025. His Excellency Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to the United States, says service, unity and patriotism are key elements required for effective national stewardship.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Military Ball of the Liberian American Veterans Association (LAVA) on November 8 in Washington, D.C., First Secretary for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Miss Joetta Addy who delivered a special statement from the Ambassador, praised LAVA for its unwavering commitment to excellence, discipline, and duty—values he described as “the lifeblood of military service and the cornerstone of leadership.”
Ambassador Conteh emphasized the unique role LAVA plays in strengthening ties between Liberia and the United States. “As Liberians who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces,” he said, “you embody the living bridge between our two nations. Your service strengthens the bonds of friendship and shared values that unite the Republic of Liberia and the United States of America.”
He also expressed heartfelt appreciation to LAVA members who volunteered to clean the Liberian Embassy compound on November 9, calling their gesture “an act of service that exemplifies your deep sense of duty—not only to the country of your birth but also to the mission that represents it abroad.”
Ambassador Conteh highlighted recent strides in Liberia’s defense sector, citing the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) as a “respected, mission-ready force” engaged in peacekeeping, disaster response, and civil-military relations. He credited the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and the enduring partnership with the United States Department of Defense for these advancements.
“The sustained mentorship of U.S. military advisors and the collaborative engagements under the U.S.–Liberia Security Cooperation Framework have helped build a modern and professional military that reflects democratic values and respect for human rights,” he said.
Dr. Conteh also acknowledged the AFL’s growing capabilities in engineering, logistics, and coastal defense, and its active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions as evidence of Liberia’s commitment to regional stability and global peace.
Ambassador Conteh reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to deepening collaboration with LAVA, particularly in areas such as veterans’ reintegration, youth mentorship, and knowledge-sharing with the AFL.
“The experience and leadership you bring are invaluable to strengthening the next generation of Liberian defense professionals,” he said. “Liberia is proud of you—not only for the battles you have fought but also for the example you continue to set as leaders, mentors, and patriots.”
Founded in 2009, LAVA has grown into a vibrant organization that connects generations of Liberians who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
