ECOWAS Envoys in Washington Pay Courtesy Call on VP Boakai

Washington, D.C. – Nov.3, 2015:  Ambassadors and other diplomatic representatives of ECOWAS countries accredited to the United States today paid a courtesy call on Vice President Joseph N. Boakai of Liberia during the Vice President’s visit to Washington for the signing of the Compact between Liberia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).During the ECOWAS envoys’ meeting with Vice President Boakai at the Liberian Embassy near Washington, D.C., H.E. Bockari Stevens, Ambassador of Sierra Leone and Dean of the ECOWAS Ambassadors Group (EAG), applauded the Liberian Government and people for the MCC Compact.Ambassador Bockari said the MCC Compact is a major accomplishment for Liberia, which is recovering from the devastation of the Ebola epidemic.In remarks, Vice President Boakai lauded the ECOWAS diplomats for meeting with him, and briefed them about Liberia’s progress in containing the Ebola epidemic and the reconstruction process.Vice President Boakai underscored the need for African countries and peoples to unite and work together for the collective progress of the entire African Continent.Speaking earlier, H.E. Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, highlighted activities of the EAG, which are focused on promoting the interest of West Africa in particular and the African Continent in general. Following the meeting with the EAG, Vice President Boakai also met with the staff of the Embassy of Liberia, during which he thanked them for their sacrifices and services to their country.He emphasized the need for Liberians to join hands and work together to ensure sustainable progress in Liberia.Below, please find photos of Vice President Boakai’s meeting with members of the EAG, as well as the staff of the Liberian Embassy.
