
(Washington, D.C - June 17, 2015): In an effort to further enhance Liberia’s representation in the United States and Canada, the Government of Liberia has begun a process to establish four Honorary Consulates in both countries.On June 4, 2015, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, commenced the process to establish Consulates during a 3-week tour to California and Minnesota in the U.S., as well as Toronto and Edmonton in Canada. Ambassador Sulunteh traveled to Los Angeles, California on June 4, 2015 where he met with the leadership of Liberian organizations in order to assist him in the identification and selection process of an Honorary Consul General. Thereafter, His Excellency headed to Canada where he met with heads of Liberian Associations in Toronto early this week. The last leg of Ambassador Sulunteh’s tour will be in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota from June 25-28, 2015. He will host a townhall meeting with OLEM-the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota. It is estimated that 22,000 Liberians reside in Minnesota. A biometric passport issuing station will also be established by the Government of Liberia at the Honorary Consulate in Minnesota.The Government of Liberia is establishing additional Honorary Consulates in the United States and Canada in order to create a presence in areas of high Liberian populations, as well as to create opportunities for trade and investment and education for Liberia.
