Liberian President Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Africa's first democratically elected female president, has been awarded The Nobel Peace Prize. She shared the award with women's rights campaigner Leymah Gbowee, also from Liberia, and Tawakkul Karman, a female icon of the protest movement in Yemen.

Liberians Celebrate 175th Independence Anniversary on Embassy Grounds Near Washington D.C.

Washington DC-August 1, 2022--It was Saturday, July 23, 2022, the weatherman estimated that the temperature in Washington DC would be in the 90’s. By 10 a.m., members of the program planning committee were on the grounds of the Embassy putting finishing touches to the program; vendors were setting up stalls; loud music barked from the speakers and the air was filled and smelled of fine and delicate Liberian gastronomies. This was indeed celebrations marking the 175th independence of Liberia.

Liberians Celebrate Independence with Cultural Extravaganza on Embassy Grounds in Washington D.C.

Washington DC. July 25,2023. The Embassy of Liberia near Washington DC in collaboration with the Friends of the Liberian Embassy (FOLE) and the Liberian Community Association (LCA) DC-Metro Area hosted a grand cultural Extravaganza to commemorate the 176 Independence Anniversary of Liberia. The program was held on the grounds of the Embassy near Washington DC on Saturday, July 22, 2023. It brought together hundreds of Liberians from the surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland and the District of Columbia.
